In the seventh season of the horror anthology series, American Horror Story, we’re given the full monty in terms of Trump derangement syndrome. As always, I have to point out, regardless what you think about Trump or politics, the issue for me is not having TV producers and networks trying to brainwash me to their agenda. This shows get off to a terrible start from the get-go.
Just in case you lack subtlety, we’re told who we’re dealing with here. We start off with news footage from the 2016 presidental campaign, showing each of the candidates. Then we pull out into separate living rooms across town where, I gather, representative supporters are watching. In one, a blue haired freak is having an orgasm while watching Fox News, yelling “Fuck you, world” and “USA, USA.” Because blue hair is a sure sign of Trump supporters. Meanwhile, across town a heroic lesbian restaurant owner, in a lovely and well appointed home is earnestly watching CNN, and wondering what all this will mean for Merrick Garland.
The whole season is riddle with fancy people venting their fears about the coming Trump apocalypse. But of course the key point is that our blue haired friend from the beginning turns out to be a pretty nasty guy. So, all the talk about the fear of Trump isn’t groundless. Trump himself may not have done anything terrible, but he empowers and inspires those who will and do. Sounds like a familiar narrative, no?
I confess, I’m not a huge horror fan, so I don’t want to pretend to give you a claim about the technical proficiency of the show. If you’re a big fan of this anthology series, as I know many have been, you may find some thrills and chills in it. However, do be warned; the creapiest thing in the show is the indocrination by the #resistance. This is a volley in the cultural wars. Prepare yourself and act accordingly.
