Sydney Sweeney kicking butt among other things once again

Sydney Sweeney just dropped one of the most talked-about ads of the year—and instead of folding, she doubled down like a pro.

In mid-September 2026 she starred in (and holds equity in) a campaign for Novig, a sports prediction platform. The spot is playful and unapologetic: she’s mostly nude, using footballs, a basketball, a hockey net, and other gear as the only “clothing,” while repeating “sports” and making the pitch that this is just about the games—no politics, no extra noise. The ad exploded across Instagram, YouTube, and even giant Times Square billboards.

A group of female athletes immediately piled on, calling it objectifying and a setback for women’s sports. Sweeney’s response was sharp and on-brand: she posted classic ESPN Body Issue shots of actual elite athletes—Serena Williams, Sue Bird, and others—who had posed nude or nearly nude themselves. The implication was clear: the outrage looks a lot more selective than principled.

She’s not just the face of the campaign. She’s a strategic partner with skin in the game, and reports say she drove a lot of the visual and messaging decisions herself. That’s consistent with how she’s operated lately—owning her image, launching her own lingerie line, and treating controversy as free amplification rather than a career-ender. She lost some Instagram followers in the first wave of backlash, then gained a chunk back. The company is valued in the hundreds of millions. The ad did exactly what ads are supposed to do.

Maye Musk called her fabulous. Some commentators pointed out the obvious: Sweeney is hot, she knows it, brands pay her because of it, and she’s not pretending otherwise. A few voices also noted that the intensity of the pile-on tracks with her being a registered Republican as much as with the actual content of the ad.

In short: she made a deliberately provocative commercial for a company she has a stake in, refused to apologize when people got mad, pointed out the double standard with receipts, and kept the spotlight. That’s not a scandal. That’s a very Sydney Sweeney business move.
