You’ve got to check out this article over at the Los Angelas Review of Books. So it turns out that playing melodic, soul inspiring classical music in public spaces has the additional benefit of reducing insults, assaults, and vandalism. It seems that criminally minded types don’t get off on the classics and indeed apparently feel the need to vacate the premises. I’m sure it’s just not cool being seen in the vicinity of music that isn’t promoting gangsters and whores.
But of course that we’d get this double benefit — two birds with one stone — of more musically mature ambience and safer premises is conceived by this joker at the L.A. Review of Books as nothing less than an assault on the oppressed peoples of the city. Not kidding. This Theodore Gioia joker literally characterizes these developments as weaponizing classical music.
If you have any doubt that when these SJWs talk about a culture war, that they’re not just being hyperbolic, check out this: https://lareviewofbooks.org/article/bach-at-the-burger-king/#!
